As some of you might already know, Force’s girl plays softball on an inner-city team. Although softball doesn’t play an important part in the book, I have a few questions and hope my readers can help me with them. (I know a few things about baseball but not so much about softball.)
So here are my questions:
1. Are you allowed to steal bases in softball?
2. Assuming that you are allowed to steal bases, is it possible (realistic) for a girl catcher to throw someone out at second or is it too far to lob that great big ball?
Thanks guys!

Typically you aren’t allowed to steal bases in a softball game. I used to play softball and we had one girl who could throw a softball from the outfield to the catcher. She had a tremendous arm. I was pretty good too. I could throw it from the outfield to one of the bases. I double checked. You cannot lead off a base in slow pitch softball. You must wait until the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand. That makes stealing the base a bit tricky. You would need to be REALLY fast or have the pitcher really misjudge a pitch. Hope this helps.
Good luck with your writing.

Okay. That sounds familiar (the part about waiting until the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand).
